Hello hello, CIESC Staff!

Tech Department has been hard at work on some new projects and initiatives to help improve the quality of our online services and in-office tools! In lieu of sending out multiple emails with all of these updates individually, we decided to create this snazzy new Technology Department Newsletter! We will send out all updates once a month in this newsletter and only send out emergency info via single emails from this point forward! If you have any questions, as always, feel free to reach out to your Friendly Neighborhood Tech Department! We are always happy to help!

Have you been using the Staff Portal?

Security Cams

In an effort to bring more security to all of you wonderful folks here at CIESC we have created a new Security Cams page located under the Facilities menu on the Staff Portal! This page will show the entrance security cam for P2 in a live feed. Thanks for getting this feed going, Dale!

Conference Room Account Information

Looking for the Zoom, Email, or Google accounts for a conference room that you have an event in? We have now split that information into its own page called Conference Room Accounts, located under the Facilities menu on the Staff Portal! Now you won't have to wait for all the calendars to load just to get a Zoom URL! Woot!

Tech Department Updates and Tips

Facility Updates

Horizon / Phoenix Room will temporarily require a member of the Technology Department to set up the screens. We have updated the system that runs the screens and audio in the room. It will require a specialized programmer to come out to update the wall panels to work with this new system. He will be here near the end of October to do this update. In the meantime, please plan accordingly to include Dale in any events that will be held in Horizon / Phoenix Room to ensure you are able to get set up with screen sharing properly! Thank you!

Should you update to the new OS?

There have been new versions of Windows 11 and Mac OS released this past week and a few staff members have asked whether it is safe to update or not. My answer is normally to wait at least a week before updating to the newest OS to allow some time for any bug fix updates to release to the public. If you do want to update right away, please make sure your important documents and information is stored somewhere online in the very small, but very possible, chance that something goes wrong and we need to restore your computer. Thomas has been using both new OS updates for a few days now with no problems, however, and is loving all the new updates!

Have you cleaned your devices recently?!

Is your phone covered in smudges? Are there crumbs on your computer keyboard? Has Google Chrome been yelling at you to update it for so long that it shows a giant red button at the top right?! It may be time to take a moment to physically and digitally clean your devices! If you need some assistance, stop on by your Friendly Neighborhood Tech Department and we would be happy to assist you in sanitizing and updating everything!
